Health Screening Guideline for Men and Women

Conditions to screen Health Screening Test? Target Age Group Frequency for health screening
High blood pressure Blood Pressure measurement Over 40 years  
Blood  Cholesterol Fasting Blood Cholesterol level Over 40 years 3 yearly if the initial result is normal
Obesity Body Mass Index Over 18 years Yearly
Diabetes Mellitus Fasting Blood Sugar Over 40 years 3 yearly if the initial result is normal
Colorectal Cancer Faecal  Occult Blood Test (FOBT) Over 50 years Yearly
Hepatitis B Hepatitis Serology Screening for those with a family history of hepatitis B infection, liver cancer or with high risk behaviour
Liver Cancer Liver Function Test

Ultrasound

Screening for those with chronic hepatitis B infection, hepatitis C liver cirrhosis. 6 monthly
Tuberculosis Tuberculin skin testing Close contacts of infectious TB case
Syphilis (STI) VDRL See a doctor for screening after exposure
Gonorrhoea   See a doctor for screening after exposure
HIV   See a doctor for screening after exposure
Chlamydia   See a doctor for screening after exposure

Conditions to screen Health Screening Test? Target Age Group Frequency for health screening
Cervical Cancer Pap Smear Over 25 years  if she has sex before 3 yearly till 64 years old
Breast Cancer Breast Self-Examination (BSE) 25 years to 69 years   Monthly  
  Mammogram 25 years to 69 years   Mammogram once in 2 years
Osteoporosis Bone Mineral Density (BMD). Over 65 years or earlier if advised by your doctor

Prostate Cancer Prostate Specific Antigen and Digital examination Early screening for men over 50 years with close relatives with prostate cancer arising before the age of 60 Yearly to  once every 3 years
